On 8 October 2026 most preorders on TCGplayer sat well above Wizards' MSRP: Commander decks around $94 against $74.99, and the Collector's Edition decks at more than twice their $159.99 MSRP. The Preorder Premium

MTG Star Trek (Magic: The Gathering | Star Trek, set code TRK) releases on 13 November 2026, with prerelease events from 6 to 12 November and an MTG Arena release on 10 November. It is a full Universes Beyond set and, according to Wizards, legal in every format.

This guide covers every product, its MSRP from Wizards, and what it costs to preorder on TCGplayer as of 8 October 2026. The gap between those two numbers is the main thing to know before you buy.

The short answer: buy at MSRP from a local store if you can. Most Star Trek preorders on TCGplayer are priced 25% to 140% above list.

MSRPs come from Wizards' "Collecting Star Trek" article. TCGplayer figures are market prices on 8 October 2026, five weeks before release, and preorder prices move a lot before and after launch. Wizards does not list a price for a sealed box, only for single packs.

Star Trek Play Booster Box

A Play Booster has 14 cards: 7 commons, 3 uncommons, 1 wildcard of any rarity, 1 traditional foil of any rarity, 1 rare or mythic rare, and 1 land. In about 1 in 25 packs, one common is replaced by a Stardates card, one of 30 reprints of existing Magic cards with Star Trek artwork.

At about $154 for 30 packs, the box is the one product priced below what the packs would cost one at a time at MSRP (30 × $6.99 = $209.70). It's the best way to draft the set or open a lot of packs. Preorder it on TCGplayer.

Whether it's worth opening depends on what the cards sell for after release, which nobody knows yet. Our expected value calculator will add the Star Trek boxes once the set is out and card prices settle.

Star Trek Collector Booster Box

A Collector Booster has 15 cards, all of them foil or Booster Fun except one:

  • 5 traditional foil commons and 3 traditional foil uncommons
  • 1 foil common or uncommon
  • 1 traditional foil basic land
  • 1 traditional foil rare or mythic
  • 1 non-foil extended-art rare or mythic
  • 2 rare or mythic Booster Fun cards
  • 1 foil rare or mythic Booster Fun card

The chase is the signed Headliner cards: seven different cards signed by Star Trek actors, about 250 copies of each, found only in Collector Boosters. The Booster Fun treatments include LCARS frame cards (29, plus 10 LCARS frame shock lands), Classic Enterprise retro cards (24) and borderless scene cards (25).

At about $673 for 12 packs, about $56 a pack, the preorder price is roughly 48% above the $37.99 pack MSRP. Buy it if you want the treatments and accept the odds, not as an investment. TCGplayer listing.

Star Trek Commander Decks

Four decks, each built around a crew, fleet or army from Star Trek:

DeckTCGplayer preorder (8 Oct 2026)Collector's Edition
Federation Fleet~$94~$335
Landing Party~$94~$343
Klingon Fury~$100~$380
We Are the Borg~$94~$353

Each standard deck has a traditional foil borderless face commander and 99 non-foil cards, 32 of them new to Magic, at an MSRP of $74.99. The Collector's Edition decks have all 100 cards in surge foil, at $159.99.

Wizards hasn't published the full decklists yet. Until it does, a $94 preorder is a bet on a deck you can't see. We'll compare the four decks against the 2025 precons once the lists are out.

The Collector's Edition premium

At $335 to $380, the Collector's Edition decks are preordering at more than twice their $159.99 MSRP. The standard decks are about 25% over. If you want a Collector's Edition, a local store selling at MSRP saves you around $200 a deck.

Bundles, Draft Night and Scene Boxes

  • Bundle ($69.99 MSRP, ~$76): 9 Play Boosters, 30 basic lands (15 foil, 15 non-foil), a foil promo and accessories. The closest preorder to MSRP. TCGplayer.
  • Beam Me Up Bundle ($99.99 MSRP, ~$154): 8 Play Boosters, 1 Collector Booster, 30 full-art Away Team basic lands and 2 foil Beam Me Up promos, from a set of 8 Spacecraft cards. TCGplayer.
  • Draft Night ($119.99 MSRP, ~$140): a four-player draft kit with 12 Play Boosters, 1 Collector Booster, 90 basic lands and 10 tokens. TCGplayer.
  • Scene Boxes ($41.99 MSRP, ~$77): Enterprise-Q and Divergent Timelines, each with 3 Play Boosters and 6 traditional foil borderless scene cards. Enterprise-Q, Divergent Timelines.

The Most Expensive Star Trek Cards So Far

Card preorders started before release, so these prices will move. On Scryfall on 8 October 2026, the regular printings led by:

  • Dr. Beverly Crusher (mythic): about $53
  • U.S.S. Enterprise-D, Galaxy-Class (rare): about $31
  • The City on the Edge of Forever (rare): about $24
  • Salt Vampire (rare): about $22

Prices this early usually fall once the set is opened in volume. If you want a specific card, waiting a few weeks after release is usually cheaper than preordering it.

What Should You Preorder?

If you want…Do this
To draft with friendsDraft Night, or a Play Booster box (~$154, below pack MSRP)
A Commander deckBuy at $74.99 from a local store; wait for decklists before paying ~$94
Surge foil decksOnly at or near the $159.99 MSRP
A giftThe regular Bundle (~$76), the closest preorder to MSRP
Specific cardsWait a few weeks after release and buy singles

How Universes Beyond boxes behave after release varies. The Final Fantasy Play Booster box trades around $258 more than a year on, well above launch, while Marvel's Spider-Man is around $120. That's a reason not to treat any preorder as a sure thing in either direction.
