Five Blastoise Pokémon cards fanned out: the 1st Edition Base Set Blastoise in the centre, with Team Rocket's 1st Edition Dark Blastoise, Blastoise ex from FireRed & LeafGreen, the Blastoise ex Special Illustration Rare from 151 and the shiny Plasma Storm Blastoise
The Short Answer

The most valuable ungraded Blastoise Pokémon card with a TCGplayer market price in October 2026 is the Dark Blastoise reverse holo from Legendary Collection (4/110), at about $975. Next is the Shadowless Base Set Blastoise (2/102), at about $896. Ungraded 1st Edition Base Set copies trade too rarely on TCGplayer to have a market price.

Graded copies are a different market. A PSA 10 1st Edition Base Set Blastoise sold for $138,880 at Goldin in February 2026, the record for an English Blastoise sold in packs. A PSA 10 Japanese "No Rarity" Blastoise sold for $231,800 at Goldin in December 2025, and a 1998 presentation card that was never sold in packs reached $360,000 at Heritage Auctions in 2021.

Most Blastoise Pokémon cards are worth far less. Of the 59 English cards with Blastoise in the name and a TCGplayer market price, 30 sell for under $50. This guide lists every one, ranked by price and updated weekly, and shows how to tell which one you have.

Every Blastoise Card, Ranked by Price

The table includes every English card with Blastoise in its name that has a TCGplayer market price: Dark Blastoise, Blastoise ex, Blastoise-EX and M Blastoise-EX, Blastoise-GX, Blastoise & Piplup-GX, Blastoise V and VMAX, Radiant Blastoise, Blastoise δ, promos and reprints. Each card appears once, at its most valuable printing. For example, the Legendary Collection Dark Blastoise row shows the reverse holo price (about $975), which is higher than the holo (about $275).

A few rows need context:

  • Base Set (Shadowless) is the Shadowless print, although TCGplayer labels its printing "Unlimited Holofoil". The plain Base Set row is the later Unlimited print. 1st Edition copies have no market price because they almost never sell ungraded on TCGplayer.
  • Dark Blastoise from Legendary Collection is listed at its reverse holo price. The reverse holos from that set have a "fireworks" foil pattern over the whole card except the artwork.
  • National Championships and Prerelease are stamped promos: the Crystal Guardians Blastoise (14/100) from the 2007 National Championships, and the Unleashed Blastoise (13/95) from the set's prerelease events in 2010.
  • World Championship Decks are reprints from Pokémon's World Championships deck sets, with the player's signature on the card, and they can't be used in tournaments. The 2006 Blastoise ex sells for about $37, against about $650 for the original.
  • Deck Exclusives, Blister Exclusives and Miscellaneous Cards & Products are versions sold only in particular products, such as a theme deck, a blister pack or a premium collection.
  • Blastoise Spirit Link is a Pokémon Tool card from XY Evolutions, not a Blastoise. It's listed because it has Blastoise in its name.
  • Rarely traded cards can move a lot between updates, because a single sale can set the market price.

The Most Expensive Blastoise Cards Ever Sold

The most expensive Blastoise card ever sold is the 1998 "Galaxy Star" presentation card, which went for $360,000 at Heritage Auctions in January 2021. It was never sold in packs. Among cards that were, the record is $231,800 for a PSA 10 Japanese "No Rarity" Blastoise at Goldin in December 2025, and the English record is $138,880 for a PSA 10 1st Edition Base Set Blastoise at Goldin in February 2026.

The 1998 cards are the rarest Blastoise cards we know of: when the Galaxy Star sold, CGC had certified only four Blastoise test prints, the Galaxy Star among them. Wizards of the Coast made them while it prepared the first English Pokémon cards. According to CGC, the Galaxy Star was made for media use and has a blank back, and one other similar example was made for international use, whose whereabouts are unknown. The gold-border test prints have Magic: The Gathering backs.

The "No Rarity" Blastoise comes from the first print run of the Japanese Base Set (1996), which has no rarity symbol in the bottom right corner. Goldin's listing put the PSA 10 population at six. It's the highest price we could find for a Blastoise that was sold in packs.

The 1st Edition Base Set Blastoise is the English benchmark. The PSA 10 that sold for $138,880 at Goldin in February 2026 was pulled by Logan Paul in a 2021 box break, and Sports Illustrated reported it as the first English 1st Edition Blastoise to sell for more than $100,000. Another PSA 10 sold at Goldin in August 2026 for $73,810, about half as much. Goldin's August listing said PSA had recorded more than 4,010 1st Edition Blastoise, and fewer than 3% of them got a 10. Price trackers have listed other PSA 10 sales since, but we couldn't find them in a published report, so we've left them out.

The Illustrator Error is an Unlimited Base Set Blastoise with part or all of the word "Illus." missing from the artist credit in the bottom left corner: the copy Fanatics Collect sold reads "us. Ken Sugimori". Fanatics listed it as the only PSA 10.

The Most Valuable Blastoise Cards, Era by Era

The prices below are TCGplayer market prices for ungraded cards on 30 October 2026. The table above has this week's prices.

Wizards of the Coast era (1999–2003)

  • Base Set (1999), 2/102: the original, illustrated by Ken Sugimori. It comes in three prints: 1st Edition, Shadowless (about $896) and Unlimited (about $230). See below for how to tell them apart.
  • Base Set 2 (2000), 2/130: the same art, reprinted. About $155.
  • Team Rocket (2000): Dark Blastoise, illustrated by Mitsuhiro Arita. The holo (3/82) is about $523 in 1st Edition and $215 Unlimited, and the 1st Edition non-holo (20/82) about $68.
  • Legendary Collection (2002), 4/110: the Dark Blastoise art again. About $275 as a holo and $975 as a reverse holo, more than any Base Set print with a TCGplayer price. That's the highest TCGplayer market price of any Blastoise card.
  • Expedition (2002): three Blastoise cards. The holo (4/165) is about $500 as a reverse holo and $221 as a holo, and the reverse holos of 36/165 and 37/165 are about $175 and $150.

EX era (2003–2007)

  • EX FireRed & LeafGreen (2004): Blastoise ex (104/112), about $650, the most valuable Blastoise ex or EX card.
  • POP Series 3 (2006): an Organized Play promo (1/17) by Mitsuhiro Arita, about $300 as a holo.
  • EX Crystal Guardians (2006): Blastoise δ (Delta Species, 2/100), about $316 as a reverse holo and $260 as a holo. The set's other Blastoise (14/100) is about $243 as a reverse holo but about $21 as a non-holo.

Diamond & Pearl to Black & White (2007–2013)

  • Secret Wonders (2007), 2/132: about $110 as a reverse holo and $108 as a holo.
  • Platinum (2009), 2/127: about $93.
  • Unleashed (2010), 13/95: about $60 as a reverse holo, and about $160 as the prerelease promo, which has an "Unleashed" stamp on the art.
  • Plasma Storm (2013): a secret rare shiny Blastoise (137/135), illustrated by Ayaka Yoshida, about $428. Its text says it's "a different color than usual". Radiant Blastoise (2022) is also shiny-coloured, but sells for about $12.

XY and Sun & Moon (2014–2019)

  • XY (2014): Blastoise-EX (29/146) is about $12, its full art (142/146) about $175 and M Blastoise-EX (30/146) about $33.
  • XY Promos: the full art Blastoise-EX (XY122), from the 2016 Red & Blue Collection, is about $312.
  • Generations and Evolutions (2016): Generations has its own Blastoise-EX and M Blastoise-EX, with different attacks, and Evolutions reprints the XY pair. All four are about $7 to $31, and the Evolutions full art M Blastoise-EX (102/108) is about $65.
  • Unbroken Bonds (2019): Blastoise-GX, about $20, and its secret rare (218/214), about $141.
  • Cosmic Eclipse (2019): the tag team Blastoise & Piplup-GX. The alternate full art (215/236), illustrated by Akira Komayama, is about $499, the most valuable Blastoise from any set after 2004. The rainbow secret rare (253/236) is about $177.

Sword & Shield (2020–2023)

  • Blastoise V (SWSH101) and Blastoise VMAX (SWSH103): 2021 promos from a V Battle Deck and the Blastoise VMAX Battle Box, about $10 and $32. SWSH103 is the only English Blastoise VMAX.
  • Celebrations (2021): the 25th anniversary reprint of the Base Set Blastoise (2/102), with the anniversary logo on the art, about $13.
  • Pokémon GO (2022): Radiant Blastoise (018/078), about $12.

Scarlet & Violet (2023–2025)

  • 151 (2023): Blastoise ex. The Special Illustration Rare, or SIR (200/165), by Mitsuhiro Arita, shows Blastoise underwater and is about $109. That's about a third of the Charizard ex SIR from the same set (about $301) and more than the Venusaur ex SIR (about $88). The full art (184/165) is about $18 and the regular card (009/165) about $2.
  • Pokémon Trading Card Game Classic (2023): a reprint of the Base Set card (003/034), about $49.
  • Stellar Crown (2024): Blastoise ex (030/142), about $4.

Which Blastoise Do You Have?

Start with the bottom of the card. The card number and set symbol tell you the set. The original Base Set has no set symbol, and its Blastoise is 2/102.

1st Edition, Shadowless or Unlimited?

For a Base Set Blastoise, three things set the prints apart:

Print1st Edition stampShadow on the right edge of the art boxCopyright linePrice, 30 Oct 2026
1st EditionYes, left of the card, under the artNo© 1995, 96, 98, 99No TCGplayer price; PSA 10s sold for $73,810 to $138,880 in 2026
ShadowlessNoNo© 1995, 96, 98, 99About $896
UnlimitedNoYes© 1995, 96, 98About $230

Why does my Blastoise say 1995?

Every Base Set Blastoise has "©1995, 96, 98" at the start of its copyright line. Those are copyright dates for Nintendo, Creatures and Game Freak, not the year the card was printed: the English Base Set came out on 9 January 1999. The dates are still useful, because 1st Edition and Shadowless copies read "1995, 96, 98, 99" and the later Unlimited print stops at "98".

Reprints and modern cards

The reprints are easier to spot. Base Set 2 is 2/130. The Celebrations reprint (2021) also says 2/102, but it has the 25th anniversary logo in the bottom right corner of the art and no "Wizards" in its copyright line. The Pokémon Trading Card Game Classic version (2023) is 003/034 and says it can't be used at official tournaments. World Championship deck cards have a silver border, a player's signature and a different back.

For a Dark Blastoise, look for the 1st Edition stamp under the art. The Team Rocket cards are 3/82 (holo) and 20/82, and the Legendary Collection reprint is 4/110.

For a modern Blastoise, check the number. If it's higher than the set total, as in 200/165, it's a secret rare. In Scarlet & Violet sets, two gold stars next to the number mark a Special Illustration Rare.

How much the print changes the price

The same Blastoise can sell for very different prices depending on the print. TCGplayer market prices on 30 October 2026, rounded:

CardCheaper printPricier printDifference
Base Set Blastoise, 2/102Unlimited, $230Shadowless, $8963.9×
Dark Blastoise, Legendary CollectionHolo, $275Reverse holo, $9753.5×
Dark Blastoise, Team Rocket 3/82Unlimited, $2151st Edition, $5232.4×
Blastoise, Expedition 4/165Holo, $221Reverse holo, $5002.3×
Blastoise, Crystal Guardians 14/100Non-holo, $21Reverse holo, $24311.7×

Base Set Blastoise, 2/102Celebrations reprint, $13Unlimited original, $23017.5×

A reprint can sell for a seventeenth of the original's price, so check the number, the border and the copyright line before you price a card.

How Much Is Your Blastoise Card Worth?

Probably less than you'd hope, unless it's one of the cards above. Of the 59 English cards with Blastoise in the name and a TCGplayer market price in October 2026:

  • 17 sell for under $20
  • 30 sell for under $50, and the median card is about $49
  • 23 sell for $100 or more
  • 4 sell for more than $500, and none for $1,000 or more

The regular-rarity Blastoise-GX, V, VMAX and ex cards printed since 2019 sell for about $2 to $32. The money is in vintage holos and reverse holos, secret rares, most full arts and the 151 Special Illustration Rare.

Condition matters as much as the card. Prices in the table are what ungraded copies have recently sold for on TCGplayer. Scratched, bent or worn copies sell for less, and a PSA 10 can be worth several times the ungraded price: the 151 Special Illustration Rare is about $109 ungraded, but PSA 10 copies sold for $650 to $750 in early 2026, according to ComicBook.com. To keep a card in good condition, see our guide to Pokémon card binders.

Watch for fakes. Gold "Blastoise VMAX" cards sold online aren't in TCGplayer's catalogue of English cards, which has one Blastoise VMAX: the SWSH103 promo. For any card worth more than a few hundred dollars, buy a graded copy or buy from a seller with a clear return policy.

How this list is built

Every week we pull TCGplayer market prices for every English Pokémon set through tcgcsv.com, a public mirror of TCGplayer's data. We keep every card with Blastoise in its name, outside of notes in brackets, and list it at its most valuable printing. Jumbo cards are left out, as are cards with no recent market price. The table covers English cards that went on sale, so the Japanese No Rarity card and the 1998 test prints, which were never sold, appear only in the records table. Record sales come from auction-house listings and published reports, cited below.

Blastoise in New Sets: Is There a Mega Blastoise ex?

No English set released since Stellar Crown (September 2024) has a new Blastoise card. As of 30 October 2026, none of the Mega Evolution sets, from Mega Evolution (September 2025) to 30th Celebration (September 2026), includes one. Apart from jumbo cards, the only Blastoise printed since is a stamped Stellar Crown reprint from the 2025 Venusaur ex & Blastoise ex Premium Collection, about $2.

Mega Blastoise ex exists only in Pokémon TCG Pocket, the mobile game, where it arrived in the Crimson Blaze set in December 2025. The physical Mega Blastoise cards are the XY-era M Blastoise-EX cards, from about $21 to $65.

If you'd rather open packs, Pokémon TCG 151 has the Blastoise ex Special Illustration Rare, and its set page shows what each 151 product costs per pack. Every modern set has dozens of secret rares, so opening packs until you pull one particular Blastoise usually costs more than buying that card outright. For other sets, our Pokémon booster box guide compares what every set's box costs per pack.

Conclusion: Which Blastoise to Look For

The record prices belong to graded copies. Six figures have gone to 1998 cards that were never sold in packs, a Japanese No Rarity PSA 10 and the English 1st Edition PSA 10 at $138,880. For everyone else, the valuable Blastoise cards are the Wizards-era holos and reverse holos, the EX-era Blastoise ex and δ, a few secret rares and full arts from Plasma Storm to Cosmic Eclipse, and the 151 Special Illustration Rare.

If you've found a Blastoise Pokémon card, check the number and set symbol against the table above, and the copyright line if it's a Base Set card. For the most valuable Pokémon cards of any kind, see our most expensive Pokémon cards list, updated every week.
