Gengar Pokémon Cards: Every Card and Its Value (2026)

Every Gengar Card, Ranked by Price

The table includes every English card with Gengar in its name: Dark Gengar, Sabrina's Gengar, Mega Gengar EX and ex, Gengar & Mimikyu GX, promos and reprints. Each card appears once, at its most valuable printing. For example, the Legendary Collection row shows the reverse holo price, which is far higher than the regular holo.

A few rows need context:

• Gengar (Prerelease) (Staff) is the SWSH241 promo with a gold Staff stamp. The unstamped prerelease copy of the same card is a separate row, at about $28.
• Prize Pack Series Cards are reprints with a Play! Pokémon stamp, given out as tournament prizes. The stamped Gengar V sells for about $418, while the normal Fusion Strike Gengar V is about $11.
• Rarely traded cards can move a lot between updates, because a single sale can set the market price.

The Most Expensive Gengar Cards Ever Sold

Every record sale is a graded card, and almost all of them are 10s, the top grade.

The Legendary Collection reverse holo is the Gengar benchmark. According to Fanatics Collect's listing, the record copy sold on 15 June 2026 after 32 bids, and only 12 copies had been graded PSA 10. Sports Illustrated reported that the previous PSA 10 record for the card was about $12,700, so the price rose more than thirtyfold in one sale.

The prices of the others rose just as fast. These sales were all reported between April and August 2026, when graded vintage Gengars became one of the hottest corners of the market. A Stormfront reverse holo that sells for about $230 ungraded fetched $156,000 in a PSA 10.

Higher bids were reported in October 2026, including one for a CGC 10 copy of the Legendary Collection reverse holo, but they were still unpaid when we checked, so they aren't in the table.

The Valuable Gengars, Era by Era

The prices below are TCGplayer market prices for ungraded cards on 18 October 2026. The table above has this week's prices.

Wizards of the Coast era (1999–2003)

• Fossil (1999): the first English Gengar, as a holo (5/62, about $387 in 1st Edition) and a non-holo (20/62, about $116 in 1st Edition).
• Gym Heroes and Gym Challenge (2000): Sabrina's Gengar, as a holo in Gym Heroes (14/132, about $507) and a non-holo in Gym Challenge (29/132, about $464 in 1st Edition).
• Neo Destiny (2002): Dark Gengar (6/105), a holo, about $1,076.
• Legendary Collection (2002), 11/110: the Fossil art by Keiji Kinebuchi, reprinted. The reverse holo, with its "fireworks" pattern, is about $2,225 and holds the Gengar sales record.
• Expedition (2002): two Gengars. The holo (13/165) is about $700 and the reverse holo of the other (48/165) about $313.
• Skyridge (2003): Gengar (10/144), about $510.

EX era (2003–2007)

• EX FireRed & LeafGreen (2004): Gengar ex (108/112), illustrated by Mitsuhiro Arita. About $1,400, the most valuable ungraded Gengar from the EX era.
• EX Legend Maker (2006): Gengar (5/92), about $250 as a reverse holo.

Diamond & Pearl to HeartGold & SoulSilver (2007–2011)

• Diamond & Pearl (2007): Gengar (27/130), about $200 as a reverse holo.
• Stormfront (2008): Gengar (18/100), about $231 as a reverse holo. A PSA 10 copy reportedly sold for $156,000.
• Arceus (2009): Gengar LV.X (97/99), about $724. Two other Gengars in the set (16/99 and 17/99) are about $226 and $147 as reverse holos.
• Triumphant (2010): Gengar Prime (94/102), about $624.

XY and Sun & Moon (2014–2019)

• Phantom Forces (2014): Gengar EX and M Gengar EX. The full-art Gengar EX (114/119) is about $761 and the secret rare M Gengar EX (121/119) about $504.
• Team Up (2019): Gengar & Mimikyu GX, a tag team. The alternate full art (165/181), by Midori Harada, is about $2,155. The gold secret rare (186/181) is about $550, the regular full art (164/181) about $400 and the standard card (53/181) about $390.

Sword & Shield (2020–2023)

• Fusion Strike (2021): Gengar VMAX. The alternate-art secret rare (271/264), by sowsow, is about $1,027. The regular Gengar VMAX (157/264) is about $41 and the Gengar V (156/264) about $11.
• Lost Origin (2022): the SWSH241 prerelease promo, from the Lost Origin Build & Battle Box, about $28. The Staff-stamped version is about $2,200. The set's Trainer Gallery Gengar (TG06/TG30) is about $44.

Scarlet & Violet and Mega Evolution (2023–2026)

• Temporal Forces (2024): Gengar ex. The ultra rare (193/162) is about $53, the double rare (104/162) about $7.
• Phantasmal Flames (November 2025): Mega Gengar ex as a double rare (056/094), about $2.
• Ascended Heroes (January 2026): the Mega Gengar ex Special Illustration Rare (284/217), about $754. It's the most valuable Gengar from any set since 2023. The Mega Attack Rare (269/217) is about $34.
• 30th Celebration (September 2026): a Gengar ex Special Illustration Rare (154/128), about $77, and a Classic Collection reprint of Gengar Prime, about $57.

Which Gengar Do You Have?

Start with the bottom of the card. The card number and set symbol tell you the set.

For a vintage Gengar, the art often repeats, so the details matter:

For a modern Gengar, check three things:

• The number. If it's higher than the set total, as in 271/264, it's a secret rare. The valuable cards are almost always these.
• The rarity symbol. In Scarlet & Violet and Mega Evolution sets, three gold stars mark a Hyper Rare, two gold stars a Special Illustration Rare and one gold star an Illustration Rare. Black or silver stars mark the Double Rares and Ultra Rares, which are worth less.
• Stamps. A gold Staff stamp on SWSH241, or a Play! Pokémon stamp on a Prize Pack card, can make a common card worth hundreds or thousands of dollars.

Is Your Gengar Worth Money?

It depends on which one, but more Gengars are worth money than you might expect. In the October 2026 data:

• 19 of the 70 English Gengar cards sell for under $20
• 28 sell for under $50
• 32 sell for $100 or more
• 15 sell for $500 or more

The regular-rarity Gengar, Gengar ex and Mega Gengar ex cards from recent sets mostly sell for $1 to $10. The money is in vintage holos and reverse holos, the alternate arts and a few stamped promos.

Condition matters as much as the card. Prices in the table are what ungraded copies have recently sold for on TCGplayer. Scratched, bent or worn copies sell for less. A top grade from PSA, CGC or Beckett can multiply the price of a vintage Gengar many times over, as the record sales above show.

Watch for fakes. For any card worth more than a few hundred dollars, buy a graded copy or buy from a seller with a clear return policy.
