Five Charmander Pokémon cards fanned out: the 1st Edition Base Set Charmander in the centre, with the 151 Illustration Rare, the EX Dragon secret rare, the Obsidian Flames Elite Trainer Box promo and the shiny Charmander from Paldean Fates
The Short Answer

The most valuable ungraded English Charmander Pokémon card in October 2026 is the Legendary Collection reverse holo Charmander (70/110), at about $662 on TCGplayer. Next are the EB Games-stamped Charmander from 151 (004/165), at about $362, and the EX Dragon secret rare (98/97), at about $327. The original 1999 Base Set Charmander (46/102) is about $189 in 1st Edition and about $3 in the Unlimited print.

The record belongs to a Japanese card, the 1999 Snap Charmander promo. A PSA 8 copy sold for $640,500 at Goldin in August 2026, the most ever paid for any Charmander card, according to ICv2.

Most Charmander Pokémon cards are worth far less. Of the 71 English Charmander cards in our TCGplayer price list on 30 October 2026, 51 sell for under $50 and 18 for under $1. This guide lists every one, ranked by price and updated weekly, and shows how to tell which one you have.

Every Charmander Card, Ranked by Price

The table covers every kind of English card with Charmander in its name: Blaine's Charmander, Charmander δ (Delta Species), store and event promos, Black Star Promos and reprints. Each card appears once, at its most valuable printing. For example, the Base Set (Shadowless) row shows the 1st Edition price, and the Legendary Collection row the reverse holo.

A few rows need context:

  • Legendary Collection is the reverse holo, with a "fireworks" foil over the whole card except the art. The normal print is about $2. On 30 October 2026 the cheapest copy listed was about $4,019, six times the market price, so the next sale could move this price a lot.
  • Miscellaneous Cards & Products is TCGplayer's group for promos released outside the main sets. Its top rows are the 151 Charmander with an EB Games stamp or a GameStop stamp, the Toys "R" Us Evolutions Charmander and the Build-A-Bear Workshop Legendary Treasures Charmander. The stamped 151 cards were given away with 151 purchases in 2023, by GameStop in the US and Canada and by EB Games in Australia and New Zealand.
  • League & Championship Cards is the EX Dragon secret rare with a City Championships stamp.
  • Scarlet & Violet Promo Cards 044 is the promo from the Obsidian Flames Elite Trainer Box. The Pokemon Center Exclusive row is the same card with a Pokémon Center logo, which came only in the Pokémon Center version of that box.
  • Base Set (Shadowless), Team Rocket and the two Blaine's Charmander rows show the 1st Edition price. TCGplayer files 1st Edition Base Set copies under Shadowless, since all of them are shadowless. The plain Base Set row is the later Unlimited print.
  • First Partner Pack is an oversize reprint of the Base Set Charmander from 2021.
  • Rarely traded cards can move a lot between updates, because a single sale can set the market price.

The Most Expensive Charmander Cards Ever Sold

The record for any Charmander card is $640,500, paid at Goldin in August 2026 for a PSA 8 Snap Charmander, a Japanese promo from 1999, according to ICv2. The table lists the highest Charmander sales we could confirm in published reports. All are graded cards, and the top three are copies of that same promo.

What Is the Snap Charmander?

The Snap Charmander is a 1999 Japanese promo card whose art is a player's photo from the Nintendo 64 game Pokémon Snap. Players in Japan entered their in-game photos into contests, and the winning photos were printed as real cards. Only about 15 Snap Charmanders exist, according to Wargamer, which makes it the strongest candidate for the rarest Charmander card. ICv2 and ComicsBeat both reported the August 2026 sale as the record for any Charmander card. The same Goldin auction sold a PSA 8 Snap Bulbasaur for $809,943.

The price has climbed fast. A PSA 7 copy sold for $79,300 at Goldin in November 2023 (a $65,000 winning bid plus Goldin's 22% buyer's premium, according to GamesRadar), and a BGS 9 copy for $105,003 in February 2024, according to Rare Candy.

English Charmanders sell for far less. The highest published sale we found for one is £1,533.41, about $1,988, for a PSA 10 copy of the Pokémon Center Charmander promo on eBay, according to Wargamer. Price trackers list higher PSA 10 sales for the Legendary Collection reverse holo and the 1st Edition Base Set Charmander, but we couldn't find them in a published report, so we've left them out.

Charmander Card Value: Same Number, Different Price

The stamp or the foil sets a Charmander's price more than the card itself. On 30 October 2026, the 151 Charmander (004/165) sold for $0.42 as a reverse holo and $361.99 with an EB Games stamp. Each card below comes in versions that share a card number but sell for very different amounts (TCGplayer market prices for ungraded cards, 30 October 2026):

Before you price a Charmander, check four things:

  1. A stamp in the art. Store and event promos carry a logo at the bottom right of the artwork, such as EB Games, GameStop, Toys "R" Us or City Championships. The Pokémon Center promo has its logo at the bottom right of the card, just above the retreat cost.
  2. A 1st Edition stamp. On Charmanders from 1999 and 2000, a small black 1st Edition stamp sits at the left edge, just under the art.
  3. The foil. A reverse holo has the shine on the body of the card, not in the art. On older Charmanders it's often worth many times the normal card: about $150 against about $2 for FireRed & LeafGreen 58/112, for example.
  4. The number. If it's higher than the set total, as in 98/97 or 168/165, the card is a secret rare.

The Valuable Charmanders, Era by Era

The prices below are TCGplayer market prices for ungraded cards on 30 October 2026. The table above has this week's prices.

Wizards of the Coast era (1999–2003)

  • Base Set (1999), 46/102: the original, illustrated by Mitsuhiro Arita, in three prints: 1st Edition (about $189), Shadowless (about $15) and Unlimited (about $3). See below for how to tell them apart.
  • Base Set 2 (2000), 69/130: the same art, reprinted. About $2.
  • Team Rocket (2000), 50/82: a plain Charmander, not a Dark one. About $13 in 1st Edition.
  • Gym Heroes and Gym Challenge (2000): Blaine's Charmander (61/132 and 60/132), illustrated by Ken Sugimori. About $14 and $28 in 1st Edition.
  • Legendary Collection (2002), 70/110: the Base Set art again, in the first English set with reverse holos. The normal card is about $2 and the reverse holo about $662, the most valuable ungraded English Charmander.
  • Expedition (2002): two Charmanders (97/165 and 98/165). The reverse holos are about $133 and $300, the normal cards about $23 and $60.

EX era (2003–2007)

  • EX Dragon (2003): a secret rare Charmander (98/97) by Mitsuhiro Arita, about $327, one of three with a matching Charmeleon and Charizard (see our Charizard guide). With a City Championships stamp, it's about $289.
  • EX FireRed & LeafGreen (2004): two Charmanders (57/112 and 58/112), about $135 and $150 as reverse holos, and a secret rare (113/112) by Ken Sugimori, about $79.
  • EX Crystal Guardians (2006): a Charmander (48/100), about $73 as a reverse holo, and Charmander δ (Delta Species, 49/100) by Mitsuhiro Arita, about $202 as a reverse holo.
  • POP Series 5 (2007): another Charmander δ (10/17), about $43.
  • EX Power Keepers (2007): 48/108, about $61 as a reverse holo.

Diamond & Pearl to Black & White (2007–2013)

  • Secret Wonders (2007): 82/132, about $73 as a reverse holo.
  • Stormfront (2008): a secret rare Charmander (101/100) by Mitsuhiro Arita, about $204, again with a matching Charmeleon and Charizard.
  • Arceus (2009): 59/99, about $96 as a reverse holo.
  • Boundaries Crossed (2012): 18/149, about $33 as a reverse holo.
  • Legendary Treasures (2013): 17/113, about $88 as a reverse holo. The version with a Build-A-Bear Workshop stamp is about $38.

XY and Sun & Moon (2014–2019)

  • Generations (2016): a Radiant Collection Charmander (RC3/RC32), about $18.
  • Evolutions (2016), 9/108: the Base Set art again, about $2.50 as a reverse holo, or about $129 for the Toys "R" Us version.
  • Dragon Majesty (2018): 1/70, about $27 as a reverse holo.
  • Hidden Fates (2019): the shiny Charmander from the Shiny Vault (SV6/SV94), about $27.

Sword & Shield (2020–2023)

  • No Charmander from this era is worth more than about $30. The most valuable is a reverse cosmos holo promo of the Vivid Voltage card (023/185), about $28. The main-set Charmanders from Vivid Voltage and Pokémon GO sell for under $1.

Scarlet & Violet and Mega Evolution (2023–2026)

  • Obsidian Flames Elite Trainer Box promo (2023), SVP 044: Charmander glaring through a window at a Pidgey, illustrated by MINAMINAMI Take. About $48, or about $231 with the Pokémon Center logo. In March 2026 the plain card topped TCGplayer's list of best-selling Pokémon cards with an average sale of $50 or more, at $53.34.
  • 151 (2023): the Illustration Rare (168/165), illustrated by miki kudo, is about $83. The regular Charmander (004/165) is under $1; the store-stamped versions are in the table above.
  • Trading Card Game Classic (2023): a cosmos holo reprint of the Base Set art (001/034), marked as not for use at official tournaments. About $19.
  • Paldean Fates (2024): the shiny Charmander (109/091), illustrated by sowsow, about $35.
  • First Partner Illustration Collection (March 2026): the MEP 038 promo, illustrated by Saboteri, about $27.
  • Phantasmal Flames (November 2025) and Ascended Heroes (January 2026): common Charmanders, each under $1.

Which Charmander Do You Have?

Start with the bottom of the card. The card number and set symbol tell you the set. The original Base Set has no set symbol, and its Charmander is 46/102. The "#4" at the end of the flavour text is Charmander's Pokédex number, not the card number.

For a modern Charmander, check the number. If it's higher than the set total, as in 168/165 or 109/091, it's a secret rare. In 151, a single gold star next to the number marks the Illustration Rare.

Base Set Charmander: 1st Edition, Shadowless or Unlimited

The print sets the price of a 1999 Base Set Charmander (46/102). On TCGplayer in October 2026, ungraded copies sold for about $189 in 1st Edition, about $15 Shadowless and about $3 Unlimited. Three things set the prints apart:

Print1st Edition stampShadow on the right edge of the art boxCopyright line
1st EditionYes, left of the card, under the artNo© 1995, 96, 98, 99
ShadowlessNoNo© 1995, 96, 98, 99
UnlimitedNoYes© 1995, 96, 98

The reprints of the same art are easier to spot. Base Set 2 is 69/130, Legendary Collection is 70/110 and the XY Evolutions version is 9/108. The Trading Card Game Classic reprint is 001/034 with a 2023 copyright date, and the First Partner Pack card is oversize.

Cards that aren't in the list

The list covers English cards only, so Japanese cards like the Snap Charmander aren't in it, and neither are Pokémon TCG Pocket cards, which are digital. The two EX Delta Species Ditto cards drawn as Charmander (37/113 and 61/113) aren't in it either, since they're Ditto cards. Their reverse holos were about $400 and $200 on TCGplayer on 30 October 2026.

How Much Is a Charmander Card Worth?

Usually less than $20, unless it's one of the cards above. Of the 71 English Charmander cards in our TCGplayer price list in October 2026, half sell for less than about $14 ungraded. In the same data:

  • 18 sell for under $1
  • 40 sell for under $20
  • 51 sell for under $50
  • 13 sell for $100 or more
  • 1 sells for $500 or more: the Legendary Collection reverse holo

The common Charmanders from the main sets since 2020 (Vivid Voltage, Pokémon GO, Obsidian Flames, 151, Paldean Fates, Phantasmal Flames and Ascended Heroes) all sell for under $1. The money is in vintage reverse holos, the EX Dragon, FireRed & LeafGreen and Stormfront secret rares, the shiny cards and stamped promos.

Condition matters as much as the card. Prices in the table are what ungraded copies have recently sold for on TCGplayer. Scratched, bent or worn copies sell for less, and a top grade can multiply the price: the PSA 10 Pokémon Center promo above sold for more than eight times that card's ungraded price in October 2026.

Check stamps closely. On a Charmander, the stamp is often most of the value. For any card worth more than a few hundred dollars, buy a graded copy or buy from a seller with a clear return policy.

How this list is built

Every week we pull TCGplayer market prices for every English Pokémon set through tcgcsv.com, a public mirror of TCGplayer's data. We keep every card with Charmander in its name, outside of notes in brackets, and list it at its most valuable printing. That includes Blaine's Charmander, but not the Ditto cards drawn as Charmander. Cards with no recent market price are left out, and so are cards that TCGplayer lists without a card number, such as the two Charmanders from the 2023 My First Battle starter decks. Record sales come from published reports, cited below.

Charmander in New Sets

No set released since 151 has a Charmander worth more than about $35, the price of the Paldean Fates shiny (109/091). The most valuable Charmander you can pull from a pack of any recent set is the 151 Illustration Rare (168/165), at about $83 in October 2026. Our set pages compare what each product costs per pack and list each set's most valuable cards:

Every modern set has dozens of secret rares, so opening packs until you pull one particular Charmander usually costs more than buying that card outright. If you do want to open packs, our Pokémon booster box guide compares what every set's box costs per pack.

Conclusion: Which Charmander to Look For

The Charmander record belongs to a Japanese photo-contest promo, the Snap Charmander, which sold for $640,500 in PSA 8 in August 2026. Among English cards, the valuable Charmanders are the vintage reverse holos led by Legendary Collection, the EX Dragon, FireRed & LeafGreen and Stormfront secret rares, and a short list of store and event promos led by the EB Games-stamped 151 card.

If you've found a Charmander, check the number, the set symbol and any stamp against the tables above. For the most valuable Pokémon cards of any kind, see our most expensive Pokémon cards list, updated every week.
