Monster Hunter Secret Lair: Status, Card List and Prices

The Monster Hunter Secret Lair was pulled before its 1 Dec 2025 sale and still has no date. Every card, the monster on each, and what they cost on 3 Nov 2026.

The Short Answer

The Monster Hunter Secret Lair never went on sale, and as of 3 November 2026 it has no new release date. Wizards of the Coast and Capcom revealed the Secret Lair x Monster Hunter Superdrop, four drops of 19 reprinted Magic cards with Monster Hunter art, on 18 November 2025, for a 1 December sale at $29.99 non-foil or $39.99 foil per drop. On 26 November 2025, five days before the sale, Wizards pulled it to "rework this Superdrop entirely". No new card list has been announced.

That leaves nothing to buy. TCGplayer lists no sealed Monster Hunter drop and no Monster Hunter singles, and Scryfall shows no price for any of the cards. What you can buy are the same 19 Magic cards in their normal printings: $73.04 together in non-foil on 3 November 2026, against the $119.96 the four non-foil drops would have cost. Only one drop, The Hunters, held more card value ($34.24) than its $29.99 price.

If you play Monster Hunter but not Magic: a Secret Lair is Wizards of the Coast's online-only store for small themed sets of Magic: The Gathering cards. A drop is usually 4 to 8 reprints of existing cards with new art, sold for a limited time at $29.99 non-foil or $39.99 foil, and shipped about three months later. Monster Hunter would have joined Magic's Universes Beyond crossovers with other licensed games and films. Our MTG Secret Lair guide explains drops, the sale-day queue and what past drops resell for.

Below: the timeline, every card in the drop and the monster it shows, what each card costs now, what comparable video-game Secret Lairs sell for, and what to check when the reworked drop is announced.

Is the Monster Hunter Secret Lair Out? Release Date and Status

No. The Secret Lair x Monster Hunter Superdrop has no release date as of 3 November 2026. Wizards said on 26 November 2025 that it would "share new details and an updated release date in a few months" and told fans to "keep an eye out for more information in 2026". Ten months into 2026, it hasn't. Everything Edinburgh reported on 25 September 2026 that IGN had asked Wizards for an update and got no reply.

The bonus card was a foil Sol Ring with Valstrax art by Lē Yamamura, in English and Japanese, included with the bundles while supplies lasted. Its flavour text: "When Valstrax soars in the sky, it may be the last thing you'll ever see."

The sale never opened, so nobody paid for anything and there was nothing to refund.

Every Card in the Monster Hunter Secret Lair (Card List)

Nineteen cards in four drops, plus the Sol Ring bonus. All of them are reprints of existing Magic cards. Most carry a Monster Hunter name above the Magic name, so in a game they play exactly like the original card. The list below is the November 2025 version, checked against Scryfall's Secret Lair entries (numbers SLD 2236 to 2254). Each card was offered in non-foil and foil. The reworked drop may change any of it. Under each picture: the card's Magic name and its cheapest normal printing on TCGplayer on 3 November 2026, since the Monster Hunter versions were never sold.

Bonus cards

  • Sol Ring (SLD 913), foil only: Valstrax art, announced as the bundle bonus.
  • Pack Leader (Palamute), leaked: never announced. Scryfall lists a Japanese foil printing (SLD 7056) tagged as a Secret Lair bonus card, with no English version.
  • Armored Skyhunter, leaked: never announced and not on Scryfall. It was reported as a bonus card for The Monsters II.

Which Monster Hunter Monsters Are Magic Cards?

Nine monsters got their own legendary Magic card. The Rathalos card is Drakuseth, Maw of Flames, renamed "Rathalos, King of the Skies"; the Fatalis card is Ziatora, the Incinerator, renamed "Fatalis, the Black Dragon"; and Valstrax appears on the bonus Sol Ring. Wizards has never sold any of them with Monster Hunter art.

A quick lookup for anyone searching a monster's name. "Own card" means the monster is the card; "art" means it appears in a spell's art or on a hunter's armour.

What the Monster Hunter Secret Lair Is Worth Now

Sealed: no market. The drops were never sold, so no sealed copies exist to resell. Monster Hunter singles: none listed on TCGplayer, and Scryfall shows no price for any of the 19. The same cards in their normal printings: $73.04 non-foil, $127.35 foil on 3 November 2026.

What the table says:

  • The Hunters is the only drop whose cards beat its price: $34.24 non-foil against $29.99, and $56.79 foil against $39.99. Grand Abolisher and Imperial Recruiter do almost all of that.
  • The other three are well under it. The Hunt's cards come to $11.63, The Monsters' to $11.33 and The Monsters II's to $15.84: between 38% and 53% of $29.99.
  • Four cards make up 72% of the total: Grand Abolisher ($17.36), Razaketh ($14.47), Imperial Recruiter ($12.16) and Nezahal ($8.34). The other fifteen are under $5 each, and nine of them are under $1.
  • The monsters themselves are cheap cards. Rathalos (Drakuseth) is $0.29 and Fatalis (Ziatora) is $0.41. In this drop you would have been paying for the art.
  • Vaevictis Asmadi already has a foil, from Core Set 2019, at $11.10. Some launch coverage said this drop would give it its first one.

Card value is a floor, not a forecast. A Secret Lair usually sells for more than its cards cost elsewhere, because buyers pay for the art: 65 of the 66 non-foil drops sold in 2026 trade above $29.99 on TCGplayer, with a median of $44.63 on 1 November 2026 (from our Secret Lair resale data).

What Video-Game Secret Lairs Sell For After Release

The closest real comparison is the PlayStation Superdrop, sold on 27 October 2025, three weeks before Monster Hunter was revealed, at the same $29.99 non-foil price. Here is how it and other video-game drops trade now:

DropSoldTCGplayer market
Ghost of Tsushima (PlayStation Superdrop)27 Oct 2025$155.73
FortniteJul 2022$100.71
God of War: Greek (PlayStation Superdrop)27 Oct 2025$96.57
Sonic: Friends & Foes14 Jul 2025$57.07
God of War: Norse (PlayStation Superdrop)27 Oct 2025$39.44
PlayStation Platinum Trophy Bundle27 Oct 2025$822.25
PlayStation bonus Sol Ring (SLD 912, foil)27 Oct 2025$14.70

Drop prices are TCGplayer market on 1 November 2026; the Sol Ring is Scryfall's TCGplayer price on 3 November 2026.

Three drops from the same superdrop range from $39.44 to $155.73, so the game's name alone doesn't set the price. We aren't predicting what a reworked Monster Hunter drop will be worth. It depends on the cards Wizards picks this time, and on whether it is a limited run.

Was the Monster Hunter Secret Lair Cancelled? Why Wizards Pulled It

Postponed, not formally cancelled: Wizards pulled the superdrop to rework it with Capcom and promised an updated release date, which had not come by 3 November 2026. In Wizards' own words (26 November 2025):

  • The superdrop "fell short of expectations."
  • "But in our excitement, we missed the mark on elements like card selection and faithfully integrating the world and mechanics of Monster Hunter."
  • "Pulling Superdrops back isn't something we're going to do very often, but we're committed to doing better."
  • "Capcom is on board for us to take another swing at this Superdrop as well."

The complaints that preceded it, as reported at the time:

  • Every card was a reprint of an existing Magic card with new art and a new name, rather than a new card built around how the games play.
  • No weapons. A game about forging weapons and armour got no Equipment cards.
  • Weak card value. Apart from The Hunters, each drop's cards were worth well under $29.99, as the table above still shows.
  • The bundles, up to $559.84 for the Master Rank Everything Bundle.
  • "Champion of Kotoko", a misspelling of the Kokoto village printed on the card.

Wargamer called it "a pretty unprecedented move for Wizards", saying it knew of no Magic product pulled this close to release.

Leaked Monster Hunter Cards: Are They Real, and Can You Buy Them?

On 24 August 2026 Draftsim reported that a Reddit user had posted cards from the pulled drops, alongside basic lands from unannounced Secret Lairs, and said they came from "a Magic collection". Among them was a bonus card Wizards had never announced, a reskinned Armored Skyhunter, reported as the bonus for The Monsters II. Draftsim treated the cards as likely real. On 30 August 2026 a Palamute version of Pack Leader appeared in a video by Nick Robinson; MTGRocks reported it was meant for The Monsters, and players on Reddit called it "yet another flavor fail".

Scryfall's high-resolution scans of 18 of the 19 cards, and its Japanese Pack Leader entry, suggest at least some of the cards were printed. Wizards hasn't said what happened to any printed stock.

What that means if you are shopping:

  • There is no legitimate retail source. Wizards never sold the drop, and TCGplayer lists no product for it on 3 November 2026.
  • Treat any "sealed Monster Hunter Secret Lair" listing as a likely scam. At best you'd be paying a speculative price for a single leaked card.
  • If you want to play the cards, buy the normal printings in the price table. They are the same cards in a game.

Should You Wait for the Rework or Buy the Cards Now?

If you play Magic and want the cards: buy them now in their existing printings. Grand Abolisher, Imperial Recruiter, Razaketh and Nezahal are the only ones over $8. All 19 are legal in Commander.

If you're a Monster Hunter fan who wants the art: wait. Nothing is for sale, and nothing you can buy now will carry this art except leaked cards of unknown origin. When the reworked superdrop is announced, check:

  • Sale date and time. Secret Lair sales open at 9 a.m. PT, with a pre-queue about an hour earlier. Our Secret Lair guide explains how the queue works.
  • The card list. Wizards has promised a rework, so expect changes. Compare it with the November 2025 list above.
  • Limited run or order window. Most drops are limited runs that sell out. Since August 2026, Secret Lair Commander decks have used a 24-hour order window in which every order is filled, and they resell for a much smaller premium.
  • Price, bundles and the bonus card. Will the Valstrax Sol Ring return, and what do you have to buy to get it?
  • Shipping. Plan on about three months.
  • Japanese versions. The pulled drops were offered in English and Japanese.

We'll update this page when Wizards announces the reworked drop.

How we priced this

Card prices are TCGplayer market prices as reported by Scryfall's API on 3 November 2026, for the cheapest English paper printing of each card in non-foil and in foil, excluding the unreleased Monster Hunter printings themselves. TCGplayer has no Monster Hunter product in its Secret Lair Drop Series listings (checked through tcgcsv.com on 3 November 2026). Comparable drop prices come from our Secret Lair resale data, TCGplayer market on 1 November 2026.
