Five Lugia Pokémon cards fanned out: the 1st Edition Neo Genesis Lugia in the centre, with the Silver Tempest Lugia V alternate art and the Aquapolis Crystal Lugia on the left, and the Unseen Forces Lugia ex and the full-art Plasma Storm Lugia-EX on the right
The Short Answer

The most expensive Lugia Pokémon card ever sold is a PSA 10 1st Edition Neo Genesis Lugia (9/111, from 2000). It sold for $654,000 at Alt on 24 September 2026, the record for any Lugia card, a month after another copy sold for $360,000 at Fanatics Collect.

Ungraded cards are a different market. The most valuable ungraded Lugia on TCGplayer on 1 November 2026 is the full-art Lugia-EX from Plasma Storm (134/135), at about $2,717. Next are the Lugia ex from EX Unseen Forces (105/115), at about $2,500, and the 1st Edition Neo Genesis Lugia, at about $1,300.

Most Lugia cards are worth far less. Of the 49 English Lugia cards with a TCGplayer market price, 24 sell for under $50. This guide lists every one, ranked by price and updated weekly, and shows how to tell which one you have.

Every Lugia Card, Ranked by Price

The table ranks every English card with Lugia in its name that has a TCGplayer market price, 49 cards on 1 November 2026: Lugia ex, Lugia-EX, Lugia GX, Lugia V and VSTAR, Lugia LEGEND, Lugia BREAK, Shining Lugia, Crystal Lugia, promos, stamped versions and reprints. Each card appears once, at its most valuable printing. For example, the Neo Genesis row shows the 1st Edition price, which is higher than the Unlimited one.

A few rows need context:

  • Lugia EX (Team Plasma) (134 Full Art) is the full-art Lugia-EX from Plasma Storm. "Team Plasma" is TCGplayer's tag for the Team Plasma card design, not a separate card.
  • Aquapolis 149/147 is Crystal Lugia, a secret rare whose type changes for the turn when you attach a basic Fire, Water or Psychic Energy to it. Its market price of $500 rests on old sales: on 1 November 2026 the cheapest copy listed on TCGplayer was about $10,000. Treat the $500 as stale.
  • 30th Celebration Classic Collection 149/147 is a 2026 reprint of Crystal Lugia, with the same number. It sells for about $165, not the price of the 2003 card.
  • Lugia Legend (Top) and (Bottom) are the two halves of the HeartGold SoulSilver Lugia LEGEND (113/123 and 114/123), played side by side. Each half sells on its own, for about $423 and $329.
  • Lugia (Pokemon Rocks America) is the Unseen Forces Lugia (029/115) with a promo stamp from the 2005 Pokémon Rocks America tour.
  • Deck Exclusives are theme-deck versions of the Unseen Forces Lugia (029/115, about $65) and the Fates Collide Lugia (078/124, about $44).
  • World Championship Decks cards are reprints from the yearly Worlds decks, with a player's signature and a different card back, and can't be played in tournaments: the 2006 Lugia ex "Hiroki Yano" is about $121, and the Lugia V and VSTAR "Gabriel Fernandez" about $6 and $5.
  • Prize Pack Series Cards are reprints with a Play! Pokémon stamp. The stamped Lugia V sells for about $48 and the stamped VSTAR for about $24, against about $14 and $7 for the normal Silver Tempest cards.
  • Rarely traded cards can move a lot between updates, because a single sale can set the market price. On 1 November 2026 the full-art Lugia GX (207/214) had a market price of about $126, but the cheapest copy listed was about $700.

The Most Expensive Lugia Cards Ever Sold

On 24 September 2026, a PSA 10 1st Edition Neo Genesis Lugia sold for $654,000 at Alt after 35 bids, the highest price ever paid for a Lugia card. Every record sale is a graded card, and all of the ones below are PSA 10s, the top grade. The table shows the highest paid sale we found for each card, from the auction houses' own records.

The Call of Legends Lugia sold after 49 bids in Goldin's Pop Culture auction, which closed on 9 and 10 September, according to Auction Report. Ungraded, the same card sold for about $190 on TCGplayer on 1 November 2026.

Crystal Lugia sold after 45 bids, according to ComicBook.com, which counted 138 PSA 10 copies. A copy sold for $336,000 the week before. ComicBook.com says the 18 October sale matched a $360,000 sale earlier in October, but that earlier lot isn't in Fanatics Collect's sales history, so the table uses the 18 October one.

The Neo Genesis Unlimited Lugia, the print without the 1st Edition stamp, sold for $192,000 in Fanatics Collect's Premier Auction. Only 15 copies had received a PSA 10, fewer than the 1st Edition's 45. Outside English cards, a PSA 10 Japanese Crystal Lugia from Wind from the Sea (#90) sold for $96,000 at Fanatics Collect on 26 October 2026.

What is the rarest Lugia card?

Among English Lugia cards, the hardest to find ungraded is Crystal Lugia, the Aquapolis secret rare (149/147) from 2003: on 1 November 2026 the cheapest copy listed on TCGplayer was about $10,000. In PSA 10, the scarcest of the cards in the record table above is the Neo Genesis Unlimited Lugia, with 15 copies at that grade, followed by the full-art Plasma Storm Lugia-EX and the Call of Legends reverse holo, with 21 each, according to Fanatics Collect's listings. The 1st Edition Neo Genesis Lugia has 45 PSA 10s, and Crystal Lugia 138, the count ComicBook.com reported in October 2026.

What about the $660,000 Plasma Storm Lugia-EX?

You may have seen $660,000 quoted as the Lugia record, including in Google's AI answers. That figure is the closing price of a PSA 10 full-art Plasma Storm Lugia-EX (134/135) in Fanatics Collect's weekly auction that ended on 11 October 2026. The lot page shows it as sold after 20 bids, and Wargamer reported it as a $660,000 sale, adding that bidding had at one point passed $10 million with what looked like bogus bids.

On 1 November 2026, though, the sale is missing from Fanatics Collect's sales history, which says it removes any sale that isn't paid for. The history already lists sales from 26 October, so a delay doesn't explain it. The only PSA 10 copies of the card it lists sold for $24,600 (December 2025), $5,040 (September 2024) and $3,650 (March 2021). Until the sale shows up as paid, we don't count $660,000 as the Lugia record. Paid PSA 9 copies of the same card sold for $6,600 to $16,800 at Fanatics Collect between September and October 2026.

The 1st Edition Neo Genesis Lugia, From $22,800 to $654,000

Neo Genesis came out in English in December 2000, and its Lugia (9/111) was the first English Lugia card. The holo art is by Hironobu Yoshida. It comes in 1st Edition and Unlimited prints, about $1,300 and $527 ungraded on TCGplayer on 1 November 2026.

Clean copies are scarce. On 1 November 2026 PSA had graded 45 copies of the 1st Edition card a 10, against 613 a 9, 104 an 8.5 and 1,850 an 8, according to Alt's population figures. The PSA 10 price rose almost thirtyfold in under three years:

WhenPSA 10 priceWhere
26 November 2020$129,000PWCC (now Fanatics Collect)
11 December 2023$22,800Fanatics Collect

24 September 2026$654,000Alt, 35 bids
22 October 2026$514,080Alt

The 2020 sale came in the 2020–21 Pokémon card boom. After a $76,100 sale in January 2021, prices fell back to between $22,800 and about $47,500 from September 2021 to 2024. Other graders' top copies rose too: a CGC Pristine 10 sold for $100,100 on eBay on 18 March 2026, a record for a CGC-graded copy, according to CGC. Only 7 of the 1,275 copies CGC had graded got that grade.

The same run on other Lugias

The Neo Genesis card wasn't alone. Each of these PSA 10 Lugias rose tenfold or more between late 2024 and October 2026, all figures from Fanatics Collect's sales history:

  • Aquapolis Crystal Lugia: $10,500 (December 2024), $36,000 (October 2025), $120,000 (July 2026), $336,000 and $360,000 (October 2026)
  • Secret Wonders Lugia: $2,640 (September 2024), $9,000 (August 2025), $15,000 (March 2026), $312,000 (5 October 2026)
  • HGSS02 promo: $1,110 (February 2025), $7,500 (February 2026), $144,000 (August 2026), $200,000 (6 October 2026)
  • Unseen Forces Lugia ex: $4,680 (December 2024), $38,400 (March 2026), $156,000 (28 September 2026)
  • Plasma Storm Lugia-EX 108/135: $1,249 (March 2026), $40,800 (19 October 2026)

Several fell back in late October. The 1st Edition Neo Genesis went from $654,000 to $514,080, the Unseen Forces Lugia ex from $156,000 to $120,000 (26 October), and the Call of Legends reverse holo from $78,000 on 5 October to $24,600 on 26 October, about a third of its price three weeks earlier. The Eevee card guide tells the same story for the Legendary Collection reverse holo Eevee, which reached $615,000 in October 2026.

The rainbow VSTAR (202/195) is about $39, and the gold VSTAR (211/195), the "gold Lugia", about $26.

Scarlet & Violet and Mega Evolution (2023–2026): Lugia ex and the 30th anniversary Lugias

  • Trading Card Game Classic: a Lugia ex (017/034), about $2.
  • Prismatic Evolutions (January 2025): a Lugia ex Double Rare (082/131), about $1.52, and about $7.61 with a stamp.
  • 30th Celebration (September 2026): a regular Lugia (121/128), about $0.28, and the Classic Collection reprint of Crystal Lugia (149/147), about $165. That's down from about $325 at the start of October, according to TCGplayer's weekly price report.

Which Lugia Card Do You Have?

Start with the bottom of the card. The card number and set symbol tell you the set.

Neo Genesis Lugia: 1st Edition or Unlimited

The Neo Genesis Lugia is numbered 9/111, with the illustrator's name, Hironobu Yoshida, at the bottom left and "©1995–2000 Nintendo, Creatures, GAMEFREAK." in the middle. Two prints exist:

PrintHow to tellUngraded, 1 November 2026
1st EditionA black "Edition 1" stamp at the left, just under the artAbout $1,300
UnlimitedNo stampAbout $527

There's no Shadowless version: that print exists only for the Base Set. A Lugia with "© 2002 Pokémon / Nintendo" and a number like 149/147 is a different card, Crystal Lugia.

Crystal Lugia or its 2026 reprint

Both are numbered 149/147, with the same art by Naoyo Kimura and the same "© 2002 Pokémon / Nintendo" line. The 2003 Aquapolis card has a yellow border, an e-Reader logo in the bottom-left corner and "ID: D-74" at the end of the line under the art. The 2026 30th Celebration Classic Collection reprint has a gold border and a Pikachu "30" anniversary logo at the left edge of the art. The difference matters: the reprint sells for about $165, while the cheapest 2003 copy listed on TCGplayer on 1 November 2026 was about $10,000.

Lugia ex, Lugia V and the rest

  • Lugia ex from Unseen Forces or Worlds? Both are 105/115. The World Championship Decks version has a player's signature in gold and a different card back, and sells for about $121 against about $2,500.
  • Modern cards: if the number is higher than the set total, as in 227/214, 202/195 or 211/195, it's a secret rare. For the Lugia V alternate art, look for 186/195 and art that fills the whole card, with Lugia flying through a storm.
  • No Lugia VMAX exists. A card sold as a Lugia VMAX is fan-made or fake.

Is Your Lugia Card Worth Money?

Of the 49 English Lugia cards with a TCGplayer market price on 1 November 2026:

  • 2 sell for under $1
  • 13 sell for under $20
  • 24 sell for under $50
  • 21 sell for $100 or more
  • 4 sell for $500 or more, and 3 for $1,000 or more

The median card sells for about $53. The regular cards from Sword & Shield onwards mostly sell for under $15. The money is in the Wizards and EX-era cards, the Lugia-EX full arts, the Lugia LEGEND, the promos and the Lugia V alternate art.

The Lugia cards worth grading: ungraded vs PSA 10

For the old Lugias, the grade matters far more than the card. Here is what ungraded copies sell for on TCGplayer, against recent PSA 10 sales:

In PSA 10, the Lugias from 2000 to 2013 sell for between about 50 and 1,900 times their ungraded price, with the Call of Legends holo at the top. Very few copies get that grade: 45 of about 2,600 PSA-graded 1st Edition Neo Genesis Lugias in grade 8 or above. The modern cards run the other way. A PSA 10 Lugia GX rainbow sells for about eight times the ungraded price, and a PSA 10 Lugia V alternate art for under three times.

Most copies won't grade a 10, so don't count on these prices for a card from an old binder. Our grading calculator works out whether grading a card pays.

Condition matters as much as the card. Prices in the table are what ungraded copies have recently sold for on TCGplayer. Scratched, bent or worn copies sell for less.

Watch for fakes. For any card worth more than a few hundred dollars, buy a graded copy or buy from a seller with a clear return policy, and check a graded card's certification number on the grader's website.

How this list is built

Every week we pull TCGplayer market prices for every English Pokémon set through tcgcsv.com, a public mirror of TCGplayer's data. We keep every card with Lugia in its name, outside of notes in brackets, and list it at its most valuable printing. Jumbo cards are left out, as are cards with no recent market price. Record sales come from auction-house records and published reports, cited below, and we count only sales that the auction house lists as completed.

Lugia in New Sets

Silver Tempest is the Lugia set, with the Lugia V alternate art as its chase card. Its booster box sold for about $506 on TCGplayer on 1 November 2026, about $14.06 a pack. With the alternate art at about $460, opening packs to chase it costs more than buying the card. The Lost Thunder box, home of the rainbow Lugia GX, sold for about $1,619.

The newest Lugias are in 30th Celebration (September 2026), including the Crystal Lugia reprint. Delta Reign, out on 6 November 2026, has no Lugia card on TCGplayer's list for the set.

Modern sets have many secret rares, so opening packs until you pull one particular Lugia usually costs more than buying that card outright. If you do want to open packs, our Pokémon booster box guide compares what every set's box costs per pack.

Conclusion: Which Lugia to Look For

The record prices belong to PSA 10 copies of a few old cards, led by the 1st Edition Neo Genesis Lugia at $654,000, the Call of Legends holo at $367,220 and Crystal Lugia at $360,000. For everyone else, the valuable Lugias are the Wizards and EX-era cards, the full-art Plasma Storm Lugia-EX at about $2,717 ungraded, the Unseen Forces Lugia ex, the Lugia LEGEND, the HGSS02 promo and the Silver Tempest Lugia V alternate art.
